The Randall Cubs went on the rod on Sunday and defeated the Fort Ripley Rebels 4-2 to win their 4th straight game and improve to 5-1.  Randall began the game with a lead-off double down the left field line, then Josh Jennings put down a sacrifice bunt.  When the Rebels attempted to throw out Zack at 3rd, the throw was late and both runners were safe.  After Jennings stole 2nd, Hunter Swanson lined a 2-run up the middle to make it 2-0.  Rick Drew then singled followed by a sacrifice bunt by Matt Otremba to give the Cubs runners at 2nd and 3rd with 1 out, but Rebels starter got out of any further trouble with a ground out and an infield pop out.   Cubs starter Cody Meyer retired the first 6 batters he faced as Randall led 2-0 after 2.  In the top of the 3rd, the Cubs loaded the bases with 1 out on a Matt Otremba single, a walk to Tommy Kunkel and n infield hit by Kyle Peterschick.  The Rebels brought their infield in with Cody Meyer at the plate.  Meyer hit a grounder but the throw home for a potential force play was off target, forcing Rebels catcher Brian Skluzacek to bring his foot off of home plate, nullifying the force play and allowing Otremba to score to make it 3-0.  Randall left the bases loaded after Kalis got a strikeout and a grounder to 1st.  In the bottom of the 3rd, the Rebels got heir first hit on a lead-off single by Bill Sather, but Meyer set down the next 3 hitters to complete the inning.  In the top of the 4th, Hunter Swanson singled with 1 out, but all 3 outs in the inning were produced on ground outs to 2nd baseman Dustin Littlefield.  Fort Ripley got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 4th when both Brett Kramer and Rhett Williamson had base hits to start the inning but then Meyer got Logan Kalis to his a ground ball to 3rd baseman Brett Strack, who stepped on 3rd and fired across to Hunter Swanson at 1st for a double play.  With Rhett Williamson now at 2nd with 2 outs, Zach Heidmann singled to score Williamson and make it 3-1.  No further damage was down however as Cubs catcher Alec Zack threw out Heidmann attempting to steal to end the 4th.  In the Randall 5th, Cody Meyer managed a 2-out single but was stranded a fly out to left ended the inning with the Cubs still up 3-1.  In the bottom of the 5th, Bill Sather collected his 2nd hit of the day with 1 out, but again Cody Meyer got a grounder to 3rd baseman Brett Strack, who started a 5-4-3 inning ending double play.  Randall made it 4-1 in the top of the 6th when Josh Jennings singled with 1 out, stole 2nd and scored on a Rick Drew hit. Fort Ripley answer back in the bottom of the 6th with a lead-off single by Brian Skluzacek, a walk to Nick Jelacie and after a Brett Kramer ground out to 1st, the Cubs intentionally walked Rhett Williamson to load the bases with 1 out.  Logan Kalis drove in a run with a ground out to 2nd and Meyer finished off the inning by getting Zach Heidmann to fly out to center fielder Josh Jennings to end the 6th with the score 4-2.  In the top of the 7th, Brett Kramer took over the pitching duties from Logan Kalis.  He was greeted by a Matt Otremba single, a sacrifice bun by Tommy Kunkel but then got a ground out and a strikeout as the game went to the 7th inning stretch.  In the bottom of the 7th, Jason Sather led off with a single and the Cubs went to the bullpen, bringing in Derek Poser to pitch.  The first batter Poser faced, Bill Sather, bunted Sather to 2nd.  Poser then got a ground ball to 3rd and a pop out to 2nd to end the inning, needing just 5 pitches to get those 3 outs.  Randall managed an infield single with 2 outs by Josh Jennings in the 8th but that was it as Kramer got  called 3rd strike to strand Jennings.  In the bottom of the 8th, Poser got Nick Jelacie to fly out to center and Brett Kramer grounded out to 1st but then Rhett Williamson walked, Logan Kalis singled, as did Zach Heidmann and the Rebels had the bases loaded with 2 outs.  Poser got Jason Sather to fly out to Kyle Peterschick in left field to end the threat as the Rebels came up empty.  In the top of the 9th, Brett Kramer struck out the side and the Rebels had one more chance to rally.  Derek Poser got the first hitter, Bill Sather, to fly out to Jennings in center, but then gave up a single to Dustin Littlefield.  Poser then was able to get Brian Skluzacek to hit a tailor-made grounder up the middle to shortstop Matt Otremba, who shoveled the ball to 2nd baseman Tommy Kunkel, who made the pivot and fired on to Hunter Swanson to complete the Cubs 3rd double play of the game and give the Cubs the 4-2 victory.
