The Buckman Billygoats improved to 11-0  with a 2-1 win over the St. Stephen Steves on Sunday.  St. Stephen nearly scored in the top of the 1st when Cody Wolhart led off the game by getting hit by a Jeremy Monson pitch.  After a strikeout and a pop out to 1st baseman Joe Kahl, Blake Giggenberger laced a double to right field.  Goats right fielder Aaron Weber husteld after the ball, hitting the cut-off man Joe Kahl, who wheeled ad threw a perfect relay to catcher Travis Kahl for the inning-ending put out at the plate. The Billygoats got a lead-off single and stolen base from Matt Tautges in the bottom of the 1st and then Aaron Weber roped an rbi double into the left field corner to give Buckman a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the 2nd, Noah Boser dropped a double down the left field line and then advanced to 3rd on an infield single by Lane Girtz.  After Girtz stole 2nd, St. Stephen starter Chris Belling got a strikeout and then a Travis Kahl sharp grounder towards Steves 2nd baseman Blake Guggenberger deflected off Blake's glove over to shortstop Austin Guggenberger near 2nd base.  By this time, Noah Boser had scored.  Guggenberger alertly threw behind Girtz as he rounded 3rd and was tagged out by  Steves 3rd baseman Tony Schmitz.  Belling then ended the inning with a Matt Tautges pop out to short and Buckman led 2-0 after 2.  Neither team scored in the 3rd but the Steves put together a scoring chance in the 4th when Tony Schmitz lined a lead-off double off the top of the left field fence.  Ben Omann then lofted a fly ball out to right field where Aaron Weber camped underneath, making the catch,  and as Schmitz tagged up and attempted to advance to 3rd, Weber's throw to Goats 3rd baseman Shawn Lanners was right on target and in plenty of time to get Schmitz for the double play.  Jeremy Monson then fanned TJ Bevens to end the inning. Buckman had the next scoring opportunity and it came in the bottom of the 5th.  Jack Suska led off with a sharp single to center, followed by a sacrifice bunt by Travis Kahl.  When the pitcher Belling fielded the bunt and wheeled and threw to 2nd in an attempt to get the force play on Suska, Jack beat the throw and both runners were safe.  Belling then issued his first walk of the day, as Matt Tautges went to 1st to load the bases with no outs.  Belling found away to escape unscathed however, striking out both Aaron Weber and Lukas Otte and then getting Shawn Lanners to fly out to right fielder Cody Wolhart to end the inning with Buckman still up 2-0 after 5.  The Steves went quietly in the top of the 6th, but Buckman applied more pressure in the home half of the inning.  Jeremy Monson led off with a walk, followed by Noah Boser's fly out to deep left-center field.  belling got the 2nd out of the inning and at the same time, cleared the bases with a pick-off of pinch-runner Thomas Funk.  Back-to-back singes by Lane Girtz and Jack Suska gave Buckman runners at the corners with 2 outs.  After the Steves discussed strategy on the mound, they sniffed out a double steal attempt by the Goats as catcher Ben Omann's throw to 2nd was cut off by Blake Guggenberber, who fired the ball back home to Omann, who put the tag on a sliding Lane Girtz for out #3.  Jeremy Monson worked a 1-2-3 top of the 7th, and in the bottom of the inning, Belling was relieved by Tony Schmitz.  He gave up a 1-out single to Matt Tautges, but Ben Omann threw out the would-be base stealing Tautges for the 2nd out.  After a walk to Aaron Weber, Schmitz got Peter Suska to ground out to end the inning and it was still 2-0 going to the 8th.  Monson had another 3-up, 3-down inning in the top of the 8th while Schmitz matched that in the bottom of the 8th.  With the Steves down to the their final at-bat and trailing 2-0, Tony Schmitz banged his 2nd double of the game after Monson got a lead-off strikeout.  A ground ball up the middle to shortstop Lane Girtz allowed Schmitz to advance to 3rd, but Ben Omann was thrown out at 1st and the Goats were 1 out away from victory.  With TJ Bevens at the plate representing the potential tying run, Monson ran the count to 0-2 before uncorking a wild pitch to allow Schmitz to score and make it 2-1.  the Steves then got the tying run on base when Monson hit Bevens with a pitch.  But Monson then finished what he started by getting Ben Bierscheid to ground out to 3rd to end the game and give the Billygoats a close 2-1 win over the Steves.
