The Lastrup Lakers stayed in the thick of the East Division race with a 6-2 win over the Pierz Brewers at Hellie Field in Pierz on Sunday.  Chad Weiss turned in another outstanding pitching performance for Lastrup, going 8 strong innings, allowing just 2 runs while scattering 7 hits and striking out 5.  The Brewers didn't manage a runner to 2nd base against Weiss until Chuck Boser's 1-out double in the 7th.  Lastrup scored twice in the 3rd when Preston Rocheleau led off with a single and was sacrificed up a base by Reese Kapsner.  Chad Weiss followed with a single to put runners at the corners nd then Paul Herman cracked an rbi double to bring home Rocheleau and move Weiss to 3rd, where he would then score on a wild pitch to put the Lakers ahead 2-0.  Lastrup increased their lead in the 5th when it began once again with a Preston Rocheleau lead-off single, followed by a Reese Kapsner infield hit.  Chad Weiss was walked to load the bases with no outs and Paul Herman's sacrifice fly to right brought in Rocheleau to make it 3-0.  In the top of the 7th, Reese Kapsner led off with a walk against new pitcher Logan Meyer.  Kapsner swiped 2nd, was wild pitched to 3rd ad scored on a base hit by Paul Herman, his 3rd rbi of the game, making it 4-0.  Reggie Litke led off the 8th with triple into the right field corner and came in on a wild pitch to increase the Lakers lead to 5-0.  The Brewers finally got something going of their own in the bottom of the 8th against Weiss.  Greg Pohlkamp started things off with a walk, followed by a Mike Poser single.  Blake Kowalczyk replaced Pohlkamp as a pinch-runner at 2nd.  After Weiss got a line drive out to left field for the first out, Brian Kiel beat out a potential inning-ending double play, moving Kowalczyk to 3rd with 2 outs.  Dylan Kummet then drove in Kowalczyk with an infield hit between 3rd and shortstop to make it 5-1.  Logan Meyer then singled to center to bring in Kiel and it was 5-2 with Chuck Boser coming to the plate as the potential tying run.  Weiss was able to get Boser to fly out to left to end the inning and preserve Lastrup's 5-2 lead through 8 innings.  In the top of the 9th, Brad Meyer singled with 1 out, moved to 2nd on a wild pitch and scored on a double by Pete Herman to make it 6-2.  Reggie Litke came on to relieve Weiss in the 9th and got 2 strikeouts before issuing a walk before ending the game with a grounder to shortstop Preston Rocheleau for the 6-2 victory.  Lastrup improved to 8-1, keeping them 1 1/2 games behind East-leading Buckman.
