The Pierz Bulldogs used a big 5th inning to turn things around in a 13-3 win over the Royalton Riverdogs in 8 innings on Sunday night at Hellie Field in Pierz. The win was the first of the season for the Bulldogs and ensures that there will be no winless teams in the Victory League this season, as Pierz was the last team without a victory.  The Riverdogs scored all 3 of their runs in the top of the 3rd as Brett Bursch scored on a wild pitch and then Nate Psyck and Cole Jendro had back-to-back rbi singles. Pierz got one of those runs back in the bottom of the 3rd when Craig Luberts walked with 1 out, stole 2nd and scored on a 2-out rbi single by Peter Schommer to make it 3-1 after 3.  Royalton threatened again in the 4th against Bulldogs starter Austin Dickmann, loading the bases 0 2 walks and an Austin Zapzalka single.  But a nice running catch by Bulldogs Derek Schommer in right field ended the inning, as Royalton left the bases loaded for the second inning in a row.  In the top of the 5th, Austin Dickmann issued a lead off walk to Brady Moulzolf and that prompted a Pierz pitching change as Peter Schommer took over on the mound.  He was able to hold off the Riverdogs, who stranded another pair of runners on the base paths. And then everything changed in the bottom of the 5th.  The Bulldogs sent 12 men to the plate, scoring 8 runs on just 3 hits. The first 3 batters of the frame all walked, then a wild pitch and an error tied the game at 3-3.  Skip Toops then drilled a 2-run single to break the tie and give the Bulldogs a 5-3 lead.  1 out later, David Skiba singled home a run to make it 6-3, Derek Schommer walked and Nick Herold drove in a run with a ht and it was 7-3.  Craig Luberts then put down a squeeze bunt to make it 8-3 and a run-producing ground out by Teddy Dehler plated the 8th run of the inning and gave Pierz the 9-3 lead.  Pierz nearly had another big inning in the 6th, loading the bases, but Riverdogs pitcher Matt Gottwalt got a big strikeout to strand all 3 runners.  But the Bulldogs wouldn't be denied in the 7th.  A throwing produced a run and then Skip Toops lined a 2-run single inside the right field line as the Bulldogs lead grew to 12-3.  Pierz finished things off in the 8th when Derek Schommer led off with a single and stole 2nd.  Craig Luberts was hit by  pitch with 1 out.  With men on 1st and 2nd, Teddy Dehler sent a ground ball to 2nd with the Riverdogs attempting to complete an inning-ending double play but Dehler beat the relay throw to 1st ad was safe. While all that was happening, Derek Schommer was steaming around 3rd and slid in safely to home plate with the game-finishing run as the Bulldogs secured the 13-3 win.  Peter Schommer threw 4 innings of shutout relief to earn the win, striking out 6.  Skip Toops had his best day in the Victory League, driving in 4 runs with a pair of hits, reaching base 5 times, stealing a base and scoring once.  Nate Psyck and Brett Bursch had 2-hit games for Royalton.  Both the Bulldogs and Riverdogs now have records of 1-9 and the probability of an East Division Play-In game rose substantially.
