The Freeport Black Sox rallied for 3 runs in the bottom of the 8th to defeat the St. Stephen Steves 6-5 on Sunday at Black Sox Park.  The Steves took an early lead in the top of the 1st when Rick Hendrickson was hit by  a pitch by Sox starter Cody Rose.  After Hendrickson stole 2nd, Austin Guggenberger doubled to deep center to make it 1-0.  In the top of the 2nd, back-to-back rbi singles by Ben Bierscheid and Hendrickson made it a 3-0 lead.  Freeport got on the board in the bottom of the 2nd when Eric Evaslage led off the inning with a double off the left field wall, and eventually scored on an infield hit by Jake Braegelmann to make it 3-1.  Freeport then tied the game in the bottom of the 3rd on an rbi single from Trevor Sawyer and a run-scoring fielder's choice by Nate Mettenburg to make it 3-3.  In the top of the 4th, Brandon Waldvogel and Nick Krippner collected hits followed by  a sacrifice bunt by Ben Bierscheid.  A sacrifice fly to center by Rick Hendrickson put the Steves ahead 4-3.  By the 6th inning, both teams had gone to the bullpen.  In the top of the 7th, Tony Schmitz doubled to the left-center gap off Mitch Reller and then scored when Ben Omann lined a single down the left field line to give the Steves a 5-3 lead.  In the bottom of the 8th, Nate Mettenburg was issued a lead-off walk by Steves lefty Nick Krippner.  After a strikeout, the Black Sox started Mettenburg from 1st and with the left side of the infield left wide open, Jake Braegelmann bounced a single into left field.  Carter Sawyer followed with a walk and the Sox had the bases loaded with 1 out.  Troy Frieler, who had been intentionally walked with the potential tying run at 3rd in the 6th inning, now would get a chance to swing the bat against Krippner.  Frieler drilled a single to right to bring home Mettenburg and make it 5-4.  Brandon Sawyer then walked to force in the tying run and Freeport then took their first lead of the game when Eric Evaslage delivered a sacrifice fly to center to put Freeport ahead 6-5 going to the 9th inning.  Freeport then turned the pitching duties over to right-hander Edwin Zambrona to try and close out the game.  Tony Schmitz had other ideas, as he lined his 2nd double of the game to the gap in left-center to start the frame.  Zambrona responded by striking out Ben Omann, then getting TJ Bevens to ground out to 2nd baseman Jake Braegelmann, with Schmitz advancing to 3rd.  Zambrona was able to preserve the win with a fly out to center to end the ballgame and a 6-5 Freeport win.  Freeport is now 2-1 while the loss is the first for the Steves, who are now 3-1.
