The Nisswa Lightning got huge offensive games from Drew Boland and Jeremiah Piepkorn and rock-solid pitching from Scott Sand as they downed the Randall Cubs 8-3 on Friday night in Nisswa.  This game was played in Nisswa but technically was a Home game for Randall.  So that meant the Lightning batted first to start the game and Drew Boland wasted no time in previewing the type of night he was about to have.  Boland belted the very first pitch of the game from Cubs starter Derek Poser over the wall in right field for a Home Run to make it 1-0.  Tory Miller then singled but Poser get some help behind him when shortstop Matt Otremba snagged a hard line drive off the bat of Jeremiah Piepkorn and threw back to 1st base to double off Miller.  Poser then got Jason Roepke to ground out to Otremba and end the inning.  In the bottom of the 1st, Alec Zack led off by beating out an infield single against Nisswa starter Scott Sand.  Tommy Kunkel then put down a sacrifice bunt, which was bobbled by Sand for an error and both runners were safe.  Then Hunter Swanson grounded to Nisswa 1st baseman Adam Hardy, who started a nifty 3-6-1 double play, leaving Zack at 3rd with 2 outs.  Rick Drew brought in the tying run with a single down the left field line to make it 1-1 after an inning.  The Lightning regained their 1-run advantage in the top of the 3rd when Drew Boland led off with a walk, and later scored on a 2-out rbi single by Adam Hardy to give Nisswa a 2-1 lead.  Nisswa threatened for more in the 3rd, loading the bases, but Derek Poser got an inning-ending strikeout to keep the damage to a minimum.  In the top of the 4th, Nisswa's Morgan Shepherd laced a lead-off single and after a pop-out, Drew Boland came up and drilled a 2-run Homer down the right field line to make it 4-1.  The Lightning added 2 more runs in the 6th against new Cubs pitcher Tommy Kunkel.  And again, Drew Boland was involved.  He dropped a double into center field that fell between 3 Cubs fielders with 1 out.  After a walk to Tory Miller, Jeremiah Piepkorn singled to score Boland and make it 5-1.  Miller would then score on a ground out by Jason Roepke to put the Lightning ahead 6-1.  Scott Sand was able to work out of some trouble in the bottom of the 6th when Josh Jennings and Mason Dempsey delivered back-to-back 2-out singles for Randall, but Sand got a ground out to Adam Hardy at 1st to strand both runners.  In the 8th, Jeremiah Piepkorn got it going by doubling off the wall for the second time, collecting his 4th hit.  Jason Roepke followed that up with a drive of his own to left field the brought in Piepkorn to make it 7-1 as Roepke was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double.  After Tommy Kunkel got a pop out to 3rd for the second out of the inning, Chris Pederson smashed a long Home Run to make it 8-1.  In the bottom of the 8th, Rick Drew doubled to the gap in left-center with 1 out and then scored on Matt Otremba's triple into the right field corner to make it 8-2.  Otremba then scored on a ground out by Josh Jennings and it was 8-3.  In the 9th, Kevin Smith had a 1-out double for the Lightning but the Lightning were unable to get 10-year old pinch-runner Bodie Piepkorn home from 3rd, as he was stranded there by Kunkel.  Jason Roepke took over from Scott Sand to pitch the bottom of the 9th and quickly got 3 ground ball outs to end the game with the Lightning defeating the Cubs by a score of 8-3.  Nisswa can clinch the outright North Division Title with a win on Sunday at 12:30 pm at home against the Aitkin Steam.  Randall falls to 5-5 and will host Sobieski on Sunday.
