The Nisswa Lighting opened the 2018 North Division Playoffs with an 11-7 win over the Aitkin Steam on Friday night at City Park in Nisswa. Both teams got off to quick starts, scoring twice in the 1st inning.  Nisswa took the lead in the bottom of the 2nd on an rbi fielders choice by Jeremiah Piepkorn to put the Lightning ahead 3-2.  It remained that way until the top of the 5th when the Steam plated two runs to grab a 4-3 lead.  That lead didn't last long, however, as Nisswa responded with a 5-run bottom of the 5th, highlighted by a 3-run double off the bat of Tory Miller and Nisswa led 8-4 after 5.  They added to the lead in the 6th on an rbi single by Adam Hardy to make it 9-4.  In the top of the 7th, Aitkin's Sam Peterson launched a 2-run Homer to cut the deficit to 9-6, but Nisswa got 2 runs back in the bottom of the frame  and it was 11-6.  Aitkin tallied the final run of the game in the top of the 8th for the 11-7 final.  Chris Pederson earned the win with 3+ innings of middle relief for Nisswa.  The Lightning will host the winner of the Fort Ripley/Cuyuna Range game on Sunday at 1:30.  The loser of that game will host Aitkin on Sunday in an elimination game.
