Of the 16 Division Playoff games this weekend, the best of the bunch may have been the final one on the schedule.  The Lastrup Lakers and Buckman Billygoats met at Hellie Field in Pierz on Sunday night in a Winner's Bracket game that could best be described both a pitcher's duel and a slugfest.  The first 5 innings belonged to the pitchers while the second 5 frames belonged to the hitters.  In the end, neither starting pitcher figured in the decision.  Preston Rocheleau started for Lastrup while the Billygoats gave the ball to Jeremy Monson.  Both teams went down in order in the 1st before Lastrup managed to put 2 men on base in the bottom of the 2nd with a Paul Herman single and Dan Saehr was hit by a pitch.  Monson stranded both runners with a ground out to shortstop to end the 2nd still scoreless.  The Billygoats got their first two base runners in the top of the 3rd without the benefit of a hit.  Jack Suska was hit by a pitch with 1 out and Matt Tautges walked with 2 outs but Rocheleau got Aaron Weber to pop out to shortstop to leave both men on base.  In the bottom of the 3rd, Chad Weiss doubled off the wall in left with 1 out  but Monson then got a pop out to 2nd and a ground out to shortstop to finish the 3rd.  Noah Boser led off the top of the 4th with Buckman's first hit, a solid single to right.   Matt Kummet advanced Boser with a bunt, but back-to-back fly outs to center fielder Reese Kapsner left Boser at 2nd base.  In the Lastrup half of the 4th, Jason Sadlovsky singled with 1 out, was wild pitched to 2nd but once again, good pitching prevented any damage as Jack Suska made a nice catch on a fly ball nto shallow right off the bat of Reggie Litke and then Dan Saehr popped up on the infield as the game moved to the 5th inning, still tied at 0-0.  In the top of the 5th, Buckman's Lane Girtz sent a single right back up the middle to lead off.  Jack Suska's sacrifice bunt moved Girtz to 2nd with 1 out.  Travis Kahl then ground back to Rocheleau for the second out, with Girtz moving to 3rd.  Matt Tautges then sent a ball out to the left-center alley, but Chad Weiss raced over from left field and made a fine running catch to end the inning.  In the bottom of the 5th, Chad Weiss walked with 2 outs but was thrown out attempting to steal by catcher Travis Kahl.  Aaron Weber punched a single to right to lead off the top of the 6th for Buckman.  Reggie Litke then made an outstanding head-first diving catch up the 1st base line in foul territory on a sacrifice bunt attempt for the 1st out.  Rocheleau then picked up a strikeout and a fly out to right field to end the top of the 6th still 0-0.  For Lastrup in the bottom of the 6th, Paul Herman got things started with a single.  However he was forced out at 2nd when  Brad Meyer put down a bunt, but Buckman 3rd baseman Aaron Weber made a nice play to get the lead runner in a force out.  Meyer then successfully swiped 2nd base.  Pete Herman followed up with a single and Lastrup had runners at the corners with 1 out.  with Jason Sadlovsky at the plate, Herman took off for 2nd base as Meyer crept down the line from 3rd towards home.  As Herman was caught in a rundown between 1st and 2nd, Meyer finally dashed for home and as the throw came to the plate, Meyer was able to slide in safely ahead of the tag and finally there was a run on the board as Lastrup took a 1-0 lead.  Monson got a pair of fly balls to the outfield to end the 6th with the Lakers ahead 1-0.  Buckman threatened to tie the game in the top of the 7th when Shawn Lanners led off with a walk and was sacrificed to 2nd by Lane Girtz.  Buckman then put in Alex Funk to pinch-run for Lanners.  Jack Suska's fly out to deep center allowed Funk to tag up and advance to 3rd with 2 outs but Rocheleau got a crucial strikeout leave Funk at 3rd.  in the bottom of the 7th, Jeremy Monson required just 4 pitches to get 3 quick outs to complete 7 innings.  In the top of the 8th, Matt Tautges scorched a double into the right field corner.  That brought up Aaron Weber, who crushed a towering 2-run Homer directly over the scoreboard in left-center and suddenly the Billygoats had a 2-1 lead.  Preston Rocheleau then issued a walk to Noah Boser, prompting Lastrup to make a pitching change.  Chad Weiss replaced Rocheleau on the mound.  Weiss quickly got ahead in the count 0-2 to Matt Kummet, but then Kummet connected for a Home Run to right and Buckman led 4-1.  But the Goats weren't done!  Joe Kahl followed up Kummet's Homer with a solo shot of his own and it was now 5-1.  Buckman had struck for 5 runs on a double, a walk and 3 Home Runs and there still hadn't been an out recorded in the inning.  Weiss got the first out on a strikeout, but then Lane Girtz nearly hit the 4th round-tripper of the inning, but was robbed by Brad Meyer, who made a leaping catch at the left field fence to haul it back in.  Weiss then got Jack Suska to ground out to end the inning but momentum had swung 180 degrees in Buckman's favor going to the bottom of the 8th with a 5-1 lead. Lastrup tarted that inning with the top of their order due up and Chad Weiss drilled a double on the first pitch.  A base hit by Paul Herman moved Weiss to 3rd with no outs.  Brad Meyer then hit a sharp ground ball to 3rd, where Aaron Weber started a double play, with Weiss scoring on the play to make it 5-2.  A strikeout by Jeremy Monson sent the game to the top of the 9th with Buckman leading 5-2.  Chad Weiss got Travis Kahl to ground back to the mound, then Matt Tautges flew out to right and Aaron Weber went down on strikes to head to the bottom of the 9th.  Jeremy Monson got Jason Sadlovsky to pop out to begin the inning but then Reggie Litke dropped a single in front of right fielder Matt Kummet.  Dan Saehr then came up and hit a slow bouncer towards shortstop.  The throw to 1st was too high, and Litke advanced to 3rd and Saehr to 2nd on the error.  Lastrup now had the potential tying run at the plate with 1 out.  Preston Rocheleau grounded the ball to the left side of the infield, driving in Litke, but trapping Dan Saehr in a rundown where he was tagged out between 2nd and 3rd for out #2.  Saehr did stay in the rundown long enough for Rocheleau to get to 2nd.  Lastrup inserted Isaac Otte into the game as a pinch-runner for Rocheleau at this point. Reese Kapsner kept the game alive by muscling a single.  The Lakers had runners at 1st and 3rd with 2 outs, trailing 5-3.  Buckman then made the decision to have Matt Tautges take over from Monson.
That brought up Chad Weiss, who had already doubled twice in the game.  Weiss attacked the first pitch he saw from Tautges and laced a ball to the gap in right-center, scoring Otte easily but all eyes were now on Kapsner, who was flying around the bases from 1st in an attempt to beat the relay throw home.  As the crowd roared, Kapsner slid across the plate just head of the throw and Lastrup had tied the game at 5-5 and the winning run was now at 2nd!  Nate Janson came in to run for Weiss with Paul Herman now at the plate.  Buckman intentionally walked Herman to set up a potential force play and that strategy paid off, as Tautges got Brad Meyer to ground out to shortstop Lane Girtz, who got the ball to 2nd baseman Jack Suska for the inning-ending force play.  The game was headed to extra innings tied at 5-5.  In the top of the 10th, Noah Boser flew out left, Matt Kummet went down on strikes and Weiss then fanned Joe Kahl for a 1-2 3 inning.  That gave Weiss 9 straight batters retired after the first two men he faced belted Home Runs off him.  In the bottom of the 10th, Pete Herman was scheduled to lead off.  He got ahead in the count against Tautges and then got a hold of pitch and drilled a game-winning, walk-off Homer to right to give Lastrup the thrilling 6-5 win in 10 innings.  Buckman now will host the Pierz Bulldogs next Saturday at 1:30 pm in an East Division Elimination Game.  The winner will advance to the Region 8C Tournament and then face Lastrup for the East Division Championship on Sunday at Hellie Field.
