The Fort Ripley Rebels are headed to the Class C State Tournament after a 7-4 win over the Upsala Blue Jays on Saturday in Upsala.  Fort Ripley got on the board in the top of the 2nd when Dustin Littlefield scored on a grounder by Brian Skluzacek.  Skluzacek then came through with an rbi single in the 4th to score Luke Weber and put the Rebels up 2-0.  Fort Ripley starter Ethan Branum was sharp from the outset, limiting Upsala to 1 hit through the first 4 innings.  In the top of the 5th, both Rhett Williamson and Logan Kalis took walks to start the inning, and Zach Heidmann brought both runners home with a double to left-center to make it 4-0.  That hit meant the end of the day for Upsala starter Matt Swanson, who was relieved by Eric Lampert.  In the top of the 7th, the Rebels added two more run on an rbi single by Dustin Littlefield and a sacrifice fly by Luke Weber to grab a 6-0 lead going into the 7th inning stretch.   With Brock Cichon pitching to start the top of the 8th, Nick Jelacie led off with Homer to left to make it 7-0.  In the bottom of the 8th, Upsala broke through for 2 runs on a pinch-hit rbi single by Adam Gerads and a run-scoring force out by Brock Cichon to make it 7-2 after 8.  Cichon retired Fort Ripley in order in the 9th to give the Blue Jays their final turn at bat, trailing by 5.  After Ethan Branum exited after 8 innings in favor of Logan Kalis, Brandon Welinski led off the bottom of the 9th with a walk.  Justin Lampert singled with 1 out, followed by a come backer to the mound by Eric Lampert.  John Fuchs kept Upsala's hopes alive with a 2-run single to score Welinski and Justin Lampert to make it 7-4.  An error at 3rd allowed Ben Burggraff to reach 1st and suddenly Upsala brought the potential tying run to the plate with 2 outs.  Logan Kalis extinguished the rally by fielding grounder back to the mound, firing to 1st for the games final out and making it a 7-4 win for the Rebels.  Huge credit to Upsala for battling right to the end, trailing 7-0 going into the bottom of the 8th, and giving themselves a chance to tie it up with 1 swing.  The Rebels clinch their 5th straight appearance with the victory and will face the Lastrup Lakers in Upsala on Sunday at 1:00 pm.  The loser of that game will be the #4 seed at State out of Region 8C.  The winner will face Buckman at 4:00 pm in Upsala.
