The Sobieski Skis defeated the Sartell Muskies 5-2 on Sunday in the State Quarterfinals in New Prague.  Sartell would get on the board first against Tyler Jendro in the top of the 2nd when Jake Sweeter led off with a single to left and moved up to 2nd when the ball was mishandled in left for an error.  Jace Otto then placed a perfect bunt, advancing Sweeter to 3rd while reaching base himself with a hit.  After a Jendro strikeout of Cody Partch, a sacrifice fly to center by Brian Schellinger plated Sweeter to make it 1-0.  Sartell’s Adam Wenker was matching Jendro almost pitch for pitch, as the score remained 1-0 through 5 innings.  In the top of the 6th, Jendro issued a 1-out walk to Andrew Deters.  Deters then moved to 2nd on a ground ball tapped back to the mound. With 2 outs, Tim Burns blasted a double off the top of the left field fence to bring in Deters and make it 2-0.  In the bottom of the 6th, Riley Hirsch led off with a single against Wenker.  Beau Hanowski then singled to left to put two men on base.   That brought up Scott Litchy, who placed a bunt up the 3rd base line, and the Muskies didn’t have a play as Litchy reached with a bunt single to load the bases.  Collin Eckman then stepped up, and fought off 3 straight 2 strike pitches with foul balls before drilling a double to the left-center gap to clear the bases and give Sobieski a 3-2 lead.  Wenker then retired the next 3 hitters, but the damage had been done.  Tyler Jendro retired Sartell in order in the top of the 7th, and then the Skis added to their lead in the bottom of the inning on an rbi double by Riley Hirsch and an rbi infield single by Beau Hanowski to make it 5-2 after 7.  Jendro then set down the Muskies in order in both the 8th and 9th innings to finish off the 5-2 win.   The victory moved the Skis into the Semifinals on Sunday night in Shakopee against the Young America Cardinals.
