The Sobieski Skis defeated the Young America Cardinals 2-1 late on Sunday night in Shakopee to advance to the Class C State Championship.  Tyler Jendro hurled his second Complete Game Win of the day to propel the Skis to the Finals.  Sobieski scored the first run of the game in the top of the 2nd when Joey Hanowski led off with a single and went to 2nd on a sacrifice bunt by Tyler Jendro.  A wild pitch moved Hanowski to 3rd with 1 out. After a Dan Marod ground out to 3rd, Dusty Parker laced a single up the middle to score Hanowski and make it 1-0.  It stayed 1-0 through 5 innings as Jendro allowed only 2 hits over that span.  In the bottom of the 6th, Young America got a lead-off single from Matt Mann, then a sacrifice bunt by Rock Whitaker advanced Mann to 2nd and Whitaker was safe at 1st on an off-target throw, so the Cardinals had men at 1st and 2nd with no outs.  Josh Lenz then put down a bunt, but catcher Riley Hirsch pounced on it near the 3rd base line and fired to 3rd baseman Jake Kapphahn for a force out.  Jendro then got a strikeout but Dillon Whitaker followed that up with a run-scoring single to right to tie the game 1-1.   The Skis were retired 1-2-3 in the top of the 7th by Cards starter Isaac Hormann.  In the bottom of the 7th, Hormann collected a 1-out single, but Riley Hirsch picked him off on a perfect throw to 1st baseman Scott Litchy for the second out.  Jendro then struck out Brice Panning to end the 7th still tied 1-1.  In the top of the 8th, Beau Hanowski led off with a single, went to 2nd on a bunt by Scott Litchy and then raced to 3rd on a wild pitch.  Manager Brad Czech then called for a squeeze bunt from Collin Eckman, and placed his bunt perfectly, as Beau Hanowski slid in safely with the go-ahead run to make it 2-1.   Young America then got a double play to get out of the inning.  In the bottom of the 8th, Jendro got Matt Mann to fly out to center, got Rock Whitaker to ground out to shortstop and Josh Lenz bounced out to 1st to end the 8th.  In the top of the 9th, Tyler Jendro led off with a walk against new pitcher Jake Stevenson. Zach Opatz pinch-ran for Jendro, allowing Tyler to sit in the dugout and gather himself for the bottom of the 9th.  Stevenson issued another walk in the inning but also struck out the side to keep it a 2-1 game going to the last of the 9th.  Jendro got Kyle Horstmann to ground out to 2nd baseman Joey Hanowski to start.  Then Jendro fanned Dillon Whitaker for out number 2.  And on a 3-2 pitch, Jendro got Hunter Rickaby to pop up to Joey Hanowski to end the game with a 2-1 win and a trip to the Championship on Labor Day at 3:00 pm in New Prague against the Plato Bluejays.  Sobieski won the Title in 2014 while Plato was the 2015 Champion!
