The Fort Ripley Rebels beat the Avon Lakers 4-1 in a match-up of regular season Division Champions.  Both teams entered the contest with records of 9-1 and are guaranteed spots in the upcoming Region 8C Tournament.  This game was played in a tidy 1:45 as both teams went up to the plate aggressively, producing several quick outs.  Pitching and defense ruled the day throughout, especially early.  Rebels starter Ethan Branum went the first 4 innings, allowing only a 2-out walk to Carter Holthaus in the 3rd before giving way to Brett Kramer to pitch the 5th. Avon starter Matt Pichelmann also took a shutout into the 5th, getting 2 double plays behind him in the first 2 innings to snuff out any early scoring chances for the Rebels.  In the bottom of the 5th, Brett Kramer led off with a single off Pichelmann, but then Ethan Branum hit into a 5-4-3 double play, Avon's 3rd of the game, to clear the bases with 2 outs.  But then Mac Brink and Brad Waytashek followed up with singles to put 2 men on base again.  A Brian Skluzacek single drove in Brink to make it 1-0, followed by a Nick Jelacie rbi single to left that drove in Waytashek to make it 2-0 before Pichelmann got a an inning-ending pop up to end the inning.  It remained 2-0 until the bottom of the 8th when the Rebels would double their lead.  After new pitcher Putter Harlander got the lead-off man Skluzacek on a grounder to 1st, pinch-hitter Jack Schafer reached base on an error.  Jim Kramer then took over at 1st as a pinch-runner.  Ray Austin, pinch-hitting for Rhett Williamson, got hit by a pitch to put two on with 1 out.  A Zach Heidmann single then loaded the bases.  Logan Kalis hit into a fielders choice to drive in Jim Kramer and make it 3-0, and then Rob Veith, pinch-hitting for Brett Kramer, lined an rbi single to right to plate Ray Austin to make it 4-0.  In the top of the 9th, with Mac Brink now on to pitch, Taylor Holthaus led off by reaching on an error.  After a fly out to center, another Rebels error allowed Will Kleinschmitt to reach base.  Brink then issued a walk to Josh Becker to load the bases and bring the potential tying run to the plate with 1 out.  Cody Stich hit into a fielders choice to bring in Taylor Holthaus to make it 4-1 with 2 outs.  Brink finished the game by getting a fly out to left to end the game with a 4-1 Rebels win.  Fort Ripley ends the regular season with a record of 10-1.  Avon is now 9-2 and will close out their regular season on Sunday at Noon at Opole.
