The Nisswa Lightning captured the North Division Playoff Title on Sunday with a 2-1 win over regular season Division Champion Fort Ripley.  With both teams already guaranteed spots in the 2019 Region 8C Tournament, the teams combined to use 8 pitchers in the game.

After a scoreless first 3 innings pitched by starters Ethan Branum of Fort Ripley and Brett Jenkins for Nisswa, both teams turned the ball over to their bullpens in the 4th.  The Lightning struck for both of their runs in the top of the 4th against new Rebels pitcher Brett Kramer when Aaron Jenkins reached on an error, Morgan Shepherd was hit by a pitch and then Kolton Michalski cracked a 2-run double to make it 2-0.  The Rebels got their only run of the game in the bottom of the 6th when Zach Heidmann reached on an error, Logan Kalis singled and Bill Sather doubled to drive in Heidmann to make it 2-1 but the Rebels were unable to get the tying and go-ahead runs home as Tyler Wittwer closed the door, then Scott Sand pitched the final  innings for the Save.  Nisswa will go to the Region 8C Tournament as the North #1 seed and will open the Tournament on Saturday morning at 11:00 am against the West #2 seed, the Randall Cubs.  Fort Ripley will be the North #2 seed and will face the West #1 seed Upsala at 1:30 pm on Saturday in Pierz.  After the game, Nisswa drafted Logan Olson of  the Aitkin Steam while Fort Ripley selected Jake Lynn, also from Aitkin.
